San Jose Diridon Station - railroad alignment surveyed in the 1860s

The rail corridor through what is now San Jose Diridon Station was first surveyed and laid out for the San Francisco and San Jose Railroad in the 1860s; that alignment formed the basis for later Southern Pacific track rights through central San Jose. The current Art Deco station building at this site was completed in 1935 and stands on the right-of-way established by those 19th-century surveys. Historical railroad survey plats and right-of-way documents for the lines through Diridon are part of the documented development of transportation and land subdivision in San Jose.
