National Museum of African Art - Smithsonian collection of African art

The National Museum of African Art is part of the Smithsonian Institution and holds one of the largest museum collections of traditional and contemporary African art in the United States. The museum traces its origins to the collection of Warren M. Robbins, which began in the 1960s; the institution joined the Smithsonian in 1979. It presents rotating exhibitions, educational programs, and research on African visual culture and modern artistic practices. The museum is located on the National Mall near other Smithsonian museums.
