Holly Hall (Elkton, Maryland)

Holly Hall is a historic Federal-style brick mansion located in Elkton, Maryland, built around 1810-1820 by James Sewall. The property features a unique one-story chapel added in the 20th century, a late-19th-century wood tenant house, and notable concrete block buildings. The estate is named after the holly trees that once thrived there, with a few still remaining. A significant feature of the grounds was the Holly Hall Oak, a 400-year-old tree that collapsed in 2009, which had previously been saved from destruction in the 1970s. Holly Hall was recognized for its historical importance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, making it an intriguing site for tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture and history.
