Potato Chip Rock at Mount Woodson

Potato Chip Rock is an overhanging sandstone/tuff slab near the summit of Mount Woodson that provides a dramatic, cliff-edge photo viewpoint. The rock has become a popular photographic vantage reached by a roughly 6-8 mile round-trip hike from the Lake Poway trailhead, and it sits above deep valley views toward Poway and the surrounding hills. Access is via maintained trails; the formation itself is the result of differential erosion in the Mount Woodson outcrop. Crowding and steep approaches make the viewpoint feel secluded despite its popularity with hikers and photographers.
