Chee Kung Tong Society Building

The Chee Kung Tong Society Hall, located in Wailuku, Maui, was established in the early 20th century to support Chinese immigrant workers, primarily those laboring in the sugarcane industry. This historic site served as a social and aid center, offering religious and political assistance. After being converted into a dormitory in the 1920s, the building fell into disrepair and ultimately collapsed in 1996. Today, visitors can see remnants of the foundation, a distinctive lintel gate with Chinese inscriptions, and other deteriorating structures. Although it was once listed on the Hawaii State and National Registers of Historic Places, it has since been delisted at the state level. The site remains a poignant reminder of the Chinese immigrant experience in Hawaii.
