Hammond Organ Reed Factory

The Hammond Organ Reed Factory, located at 9 May Street in Worcester, Massachusetts, is a historic site built in 1868 and expanded in 1886. As one of the few remaining Second Empire factory buildings in the city, it showcases unique architectural features, including a brick structure with a mansard roof. Originally owned by Andrew Hammond, a prominent figure in the organ reed manufacturing industry, the factory employed around 200 workers at its peak. After years of neglect, it was restored and transformed into affordable housing between 2007 and 2009, making it a significant landmark for both tourists and researchers interested in industrial history and architectural preservation.
