Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum theft (1990)

On March 18, 1990, two men posing as police officers entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and overpowered the night guards, stealing 13 works of art including Rembrandt's 'Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee' and Vermeer’s 'The Concert.' The stolen pieces are valued at an estimated $500 million, making it the largest art theft in U.S. history by insured value. Despite an ongoing FBI investigation and periodic leads, the principal works remain missing and the case is officially unsolved.
