Marion Parsons House

The Marion Parsons House, located at 179 Main Street in Fryeburg, Maine, is a historic Cape-style home built around 1838 by tailor Robert Tonge. This modest 1+1⁄2-story structure features a gable roof, clapboard exterior, and a significant ell added in the 1870s. The house is notable for its association with Marion Parsons, a pioneering nurse and educator who served during World War I and established a nurse's training school in Czechoslovakia. Decorated with the Czech Order of the White Lion and the British Royal Red Cross, Parsons lived in this house after her retirement in 1940. The Marion Parsons House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring the history of nursing and women's contributions during wartime.
