Nikolajgade 20

Nikolajgade 20 is a historic Neoclassical apartment building located at the intersection of Nikolajgade and Dybensgade in central Copenhagen, Denmark. Constructed between 1799 and 1800 after the devastating Copenhagen Fire of 1795, it was designed by master mason Anthon Christian Wilcken and master carpenter Andreas Hallander. The building has been a protected site since 1959 and is notable for being the former residence of the famous author Hans Christian Andersen in the early 1820s. It also served as a home for indigent seamen from 1825 to 1840, known as Bombebøssen, highlighting its historical significance in the community. Despite suffering a fire in 1855, the building was restored and remains a testament to Copenhagen's architectural heritage.
