Heidelberg Project (outdoor street-art environment)

The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art environment initiated by Tyree Guyton in 1986 that covers houses and vacant lots on Heidelberg Street with painted patterns, found-object installations, and murals. It occupies multiple lots on Heidelberg Street on Detroit's East Side and is presented as an evolving public art project open to visitors. The site has been the subject of books, documentaries, and municipal controversies, and portions have been removed or rebuilt following arson and city actions over the years.
