Hatch Memorial Shell (Esplanade bandshell)

The Hatch Memorial Shell is an open-air bandshell on the Charles River Esplanade completed in 1940 as a permanent venue for civic concerts and public events. Its shell form and colonnaded stage house accommodate large orchestral and public performances and it is best known as the longtime Boston Pops venue for the annual Fourth of July concert. The structure exemplifies mid-20th-century municipal performance architecture integrated into Boston's riverfront parkland.
