Fort Provintia

Fort Provintia, also known as Chihkan Tower, is a historic Dutch outpost located in Tainan, Taiwan, built in 1653. This fort played a significant role during the Dutch colonization and later became a site of conflict during the Siege of Fort Zeelandia in 1662. Originally named after the nearby aboriginal village of Sakam, it evolved into a vital trade center and the capital of Taiwan under Qing rule. The fort is notable for its architectural heritage and its library, which contains valuable documents on the Siraya language. Currently, it is undergoing redevelopment into a museum, set to be completed by 2024, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of Dutch-Taiwanese relations, making it an exciting destination for tourists and researchers alike.
