Swampoodle neighborhood erased by rail and Union Station

Swampoodle was a 19th-century, predominantly Irish working-class neighborhood in what is now central Washington, D.C. Large portions of the neighborhood were demolished or displaced during the expansion of railroad yards and the construction of Union Station and associated rail infrastructure in the early 20th century. The name survives in historical records and maps, but the original neighborhood fabric no longer exists at the site.
