1954 U.S. House of Representatives shooting and arrests of four nationalists

On March 1, 1954, four Puerto Rican nationalists opened fire from the visitors' gallery of the U.S. House of Representatives, wounding five members of Congress. The four-Lolita Lebrón, Rafael Cancel Miranda, Andrés Figueroa Cordero, and Irvin Flores Rodríguez-were immediately arrested on the House floor and later convicted in federal court. They received long prison sentences; some were released or pardoned decades later.
