Royal College of the University of San Marcos

The Royal College of the University of San Marcos, located in the historic Barrios Altos neighborhood of Lima, Peru, is a significant cultural center established in 1592. Originally inaugurated by Viceroy García Hurtado de Mendoza, this building has a rich history, having served various purposes including a military barracks and a School of Arts and Crafts. Today, it houses the Institute of Applied Linguistics, the Domingo Angulo Historical Archive, and the Andean Rural History Seminar, hosting regular exhibitions that showcase its cultural heritage. Declared a part of Peru's cultural heritage in 1972, it offers visitors a glimpse into the country's colonial past and its educational evolution.
