Zodiac Killer letters received by the San Francisco Chronicle

Beginning in 1969 the unknown assailant who became known as the Zodiac sent taunting letters and encrypted ciphers to Bay Area newspapers, including multiple communications received by the San Francisco Chronicle newsroom. One of the earliest widely publicized submissions was a 408-character cipher mailed to the Chronicle and other papers in August 1969. The Zodiac's identity remains officially unsolved and aspects of the correspondence and victim attributions continue to be debated.
