Commonwealth Building (Louisville)

The Commonwealth Building was a prominent 21-story structure in Downtown Louisville, Kentucky, built in 1928 by James Graham Brown. Originally named after his brother, it became the tallest building in the city after a 17-story addition in 1955. Notable for its light beacon, which was later turned off due to complaints, the building served as the headquarters for Commonwealth Life Insurance Company until its demolition in 1994. Today, the site features a low-rise office building and open space, marking the historical significance of this once-iconic landmark.
