Edificio La Adriática, Madrid

The Edificio La Adriática, located at Plaza del Callao 3 and Gran Vía 39 in Madrid, is a striking example of early 20th-century architecture designed by Luis Sainz de los Terreros. Completed between 1926 and 1928, the building features a distinctive tower originally intended as a lighthouse, topped with a dome. Notable sculptures adorn the structure, including two figures representing Day and Night, inspired by Michelangelo's work, and a large bronze winged lion symbolizing the insurance company it represents. The building also showcases Carrara marble figures embodying Protection and Precaution, reflecting its insurance roots. Historically, it housed the Calzados Segarra shoe store and was home to the famous Spanish cupletista Celia Gámez, making it a site of both architectural and cultural significance.
