Morea (Charlottesville, Virginia)

Morea is a historic house in Charlottesville, Virginia, built in 1835. This 2+1⁄2-story brick dwelling features a unique recessed second-story verandah and an interior structural arcade. Notably, it is the only surviving home constructed by an original faculty member of the University of Virginia, approved by Thomas Jefferson. The first professor of natural history, John Patten Emmet, was its owner. Today, Morea is owned by the University of Virginia and serves as the co-residence for the Principal and the Director of Studies of the International Residential College. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in American history and architecture.
