Lakshmi Building

The Lakshmi Building, located in Karachi's Mithadar district at the intersection of Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road and Aiwan-e-Tijarat Road, is a historic structure built in 1938. Once the tallest building in Karachi until 1955, it was designed in the Art Deco style by Maysers D H Daruwala & Co. for the Lakshmi Insurance Company. The building features a striking façade made of red bricks imported from Jaipur and was inaugurated by the renowned Indian poet Sarojini Naidu. Originally topped with a statue of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, the statue was removed in 1947 during the partition. The building is notable for its clock tower and iron elevator, making it a significant landmark in Karachi's architectural heritage.
