The Women's Building and MaestraPeace Mural

The Women's Building is a community center in the Mission District that opened in its current nonprofit capacity in 1979 and serves as a hub for women's arts, advocacy, and services. Its south façade features the MaestraPeace mural, completed in 1994 by a collective of seven women artists, which covers the building with large-scale imagery celebrating women's contributions and cultural diversity. The mural is one of the most prominent public artworks in the city and has been documented in discussions of feminist public art and community muralism.
