National Social Security Fund (Uganda)

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Uganda is a quasi-government agency that manages retirement funds for private sector employees not covered by the government scheme. With total assets of approximately USh26 trillion (US$7.397 billion) as of June 2025, it is the largest pension fund in the East African Community. The NSSF offers various benefits including age, withdrawal, invalidity, survivor's, and emigration grants. It has a diverse investment portfolio, primarily in fixed income, equities, and real estate, including significant properties like Workers' House in Kampala. The fund has undergone restructuring to enhance efficiency and recently introduced a voluntary savings plan, The Smartlife Savings Plan, aimed at Ugandan citizens and refugees. The NSSF plays a crucial role in Uganda's economy and financial sector development.
