Waziya Cinema

Waziya Cinema, located in Yangon, Myanmar, is a historic theater that stands as the last remnant of the city's once-vibrant 'Cinema Row.' Originally built in the 1920s, it has served both as a live theater and a cinema, with notable events such as hosting Hollywood actor Douglas Fairbanks in 1931. The cinema was nationalized in 1964 and has undergone various transformations, including a return to cinema use in 1999. Currently, it is being renovated into a red-carpet theater, preserving its stunning Beaux-Arts architecture characterized by white Ionic columns and original teak paneling. As a symbol of creativity and free expression, Waziya Cinema offers a glimpse into the cultural history of Yangon and is a must-visit for tourists and researchers alike.
