The Whitney (Gilded Age mansion)

The Whitney is a 19th-century mansion built for lumber baron David Whitney Jr. and completed in 1894; it later became a private residence and was converted into a restaurant and event space while retaining much of its historic interior woodwork and decorative detailing. The building is an example of Gilded Age domestic architecture in Detroit and has been restored to preserve its original floor plans, stained glass, and ornate fireplaces. It sits on Woodward Avenue in Midtown among other historic structures from the same period.
