Montview

Montview, also known as the Carter Glass Estate, is a historic house located on the Liberty University campus in Lynchburg, Virginia. Built in 1923 for Senator Carter Glass, it served as his official residence until his death in 1946. The estate features a unique architectural design with a central gambrel-roofed block and wings, surrounded by 1.7 acres of land that includes trees planted by Glass himself. The property is notable for its historical significance, having been the site of important events in Glass's life, including his final oath of office and funeral service. Additionally, it was later used by Rev. Jerry Falwell as his personal office, and his gravesite is located on the front lawn. Montview was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, making it a point of interest for tourists and researchers alike.
