John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum - urban refuge and wetlands

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum was established in 1972 and protects about 1,000 acres of freshwater tidal marsh, meadow, and forest along the lower Schuylkill and Delaware Rivers. The refuge provides habitat for migratory birds, waterfowl, and other wildlife and offers trails and educational programs for the surrounding Southwest Philadelphia neighborhoods. It is one of the largest remaining wetland complexes in the Philadelphia region and a documented site for local conservation and recreation.
