Clifton Springs Sanitarium

Clifton Springs Sanitarium is a historic building in Clifton Springs, New York, known for its striking Richardsonian Romanesque architecture and rich history. Constructed in 1892, the five-story structure features a unique facade with conical towers and a central rectangular tower. It housed the renowned Clifton Springs Water Cure, promoted by Dr. Henry Foster, and includes a chapel adorned with a stunning favrile glass mosaic of the Last Supper by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The sanitarium was converted into senior apartments in 1974 and is part of the Clifton Springs Sanitarium Historic District, recognized on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979. This site offers a glimpse into the early health spa movement and architectural heritage of the region.
