Thorntree (Kingstree, South Carolina)

Thorntree, also known as the Witherspoon House, is a historic plantation house in Kingstree, South Carolina, built in 1749 by James Witherspoon. This two-story, five-bay 'I-house' features a hall and parlor plan, exterior end chimneys, and full-length piazzas. To ensure its preservation, the house was relocated to Fluitt-Nelson Memorial Park, where it has been restored to its 18th-century appearance. Open to the public by appointment through the Williamsburg Historical Society, Thorntree offers a glimpse into colonial architecture and history. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
