28–32 Coppergate

28–32 Coppergate is a historic building located in the heart of York, England, dating back to the 15th century. Originally constructed as a five-bay hall house, it may have been built by William Alne, a former Member of Parliament. The building features a unique timber-framed design with a ground floor likely used as a shop and a first floor that includes a hall open to the roof. The structure has undergone various alterations over the centuries, including the addition of a third storey and 17th-century fireplaces. Notably, it was listed as Grade II* in 1954 due to its rarity as a building type. Today, it houses two shops, including the charming haberdashery Duttons for Buttons, making it a point of interest for both tourists and researchers exploring York's architectural history.
