Edmonton Gardens

Edmonton Gardens, the first indoor hockey arena in Edmonton, Alberta, was originally built in 1913 and could accommodate 5,200 spectators after renovations in 1966. It served as the home for the Edmonton Oilers and other teams, hosting a variety of events from hockey to rodeos. Known for its agricultural exhibitions, it earned the nickname 'The Cow Barn' but faced criticism for safety issues and poor facilities. After the Oilers moved to Northlands Coliseum in 1974, the Gardens was demolished in 1982, famously resisting initial demolition attempts. Today, the site is home to Hall D of the Edmonton Expo Centre, marking the end of an era for this historic venue.
