Betts House (Yale University)

Betts House, also known as the John M. Davies House, is a historic mansion located in the Prospect Hill Historic District of New Haven, Connecticut. Completed in 1868 and designed by architect Henry Austin, it was once the largest single-family home in the city. After serving as the Culinary Institute of America, the mansion fell into disrepair until Yale University acquired it in 1972. Preservation efforts in the 1990s saved it from demolition, leading to a major renovation completed in 2002. Today, it houses the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization and is celebrated for its Second Empire architecture, featuring a distinctive mansard roof and elegant interior spaces. Visitors can appreciate its rich history and architectural significance as part of Yale's commitment to global studies.
