Goodale Homestead

The Goodale Homestead, located in Hudson, Massachusetts, is a historic First Period house dating back to 1702, making it the oldest building in the area. Designed by George Francis Dow and John Goodale, the house has been home to several notable descendants, including Abner Goodale, a captain in the American Revolutionary War, and David Goodale, an anti-slavery abolitionist who may have used the house as a stop on the Underground Railroad. The architecture features a wood frame with clapboard sheathing and an original stone chimney, alongside later additions. The property also includes barns and is surrounded by the Goodale Memorial Forest, a conservation area. The homestead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American history and architecture.
