Dearborn County Asylum for the Poor

The Dearborn County Asylum for the Poor, also known as the Dearborn County Home, is a historic site located in Manchester Township, Indiana. Built in 1882, this Late Victorian style brick building features a unique cruciform design and sits on a limestone foundation. With 64 rooms and a contributing smokehouse on the property, the asylum served as a poor house until its closure in 1980. It was recognized for its historical significance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, making it an intriguing destination for tourists and researchers interested in local history and architecture.
