Chicano Park murals (Barrio Logan)

Chicano Park contains dozens of large murals painted on the park surfaces and the supporting columns of the elevated roadway in Barrio Logan. The park was established after a community takeover on April 22, 1970, when local residents occupied the site to prevent construction of a California Highway Patrol station; murals were painted by local Chicano artists beginning soon after. The site is often described as one of the largest concentrations of outdoor Chicano murals in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
