The Menil Collection and Byzantine Fresco Chapel

The Menil Collection is a museum founded by John and Dominique de Menil whose campus includes the Byzantine Fresco Chapel, which preserves 13th-century Byzantine fresco fragments brought from a Greek monastery. The fresco chapel and the Menil are destinations for both art pilgrims and religious visitors, and the Menil has offered liturgical events and contemplative programming. The Menil Collection opened to the public in 1987 and remains a prominent cultural and spiritual site in Houston.
