The Woodlands (estate and cemetery)

The Woodlands began as the late-18th-century country estate of William Hamilton with significant landscape and masonry features dating to that period. In 1840 the grounds were converted to a rural cemetery, and the site preserves estate buildings, 18th- and 19th-century funerary monuments, and historic carriageways that document evolving landscape and burial infrastructure. The Woodlands is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and functions as a historic site and arboretum.
