Temple of Dendur (Sackler Wing)

The Temple of Dendur is an ancient Egyptian temple dating to about 15 BCE that was gifted to the United States by the government of Egypt in 1965. It was installed in the Sackler Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and opened to the public in 1978 in a purpose-built, climate-controlled room with a reflecting pool. The installation recreates a riverside setting and remains one of the museum’s most visited and widely discussed antiquities displays.
