Haven-White House

The Haven-White House, located at 229 Pleasant Street in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is a historic house built around 1800 for prosperous merchant Joseph Haven. This three-story wood-frame structure is a prime example of early Federal architecture, featuring high-quality interior woodwork and a rare surviving stable from the same period. Notable architectural elements include a five-bay main facade with Federal-style engaged columns and a gabled pediment, as well as a second-floor bedchamber showcasing exquisite Federal woodwork. The property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, making it a significant site for both tourists and researchers interested in early American architecture.
