Scuola vecchia della Misericordia

The Scuola vecchia della Misericordia, or 'Old School of Mercy', is a historic charity building located in the Cannaregio district of Venice, Italy. Established in 1310, this former seat of a charity institution showcases the rich architectural evolution of the city. Originally part of a larger complex that included a church and a Franciscan abbey, it underwent several expansions over the centuries. Notably, the adjacent Scuola Nuova della Misericordia was initiated in 1507 but remained incomplete for years, ultimately being sold to the silk weavers' guild in 1634. Today, visitors can appreciate the recently restored Scuola Nuova, while the old building stands as a testament to Venice's charitable heritage and architectural history.
