Hong Kong House

Hong Kong House, a heritage-listed building in Sydney, Australia, was originally constructed in 1891 as the Gresham Hotel. Designed by architect Ambrose Thornley, it is located at the prominent intersection of Druitt and York Streets, near notable landmarks like the Sydney Town Hall and the Queen Victoria Building. The building has served various purposes over the years and has housed the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office since 1995. Recognized for its Victorian Free Classical style and ornate stone decorations, it was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register in 1999. The site also gained attention during the 2014 Umbrella protests, when its frontages were adorned with colorful Post-it notes expressing solidarity. Today, it stands as a symbol of cultural connection and historical significance in Sydney's architectural landscape.
