Bischofshof

The Bischofshof, or Bishop's Palace, is a historic site in Worms, Germany, originally built as a Kaiserpfalz for the Holy Roman Emperor in the Middle Ages. It later became the residence of the prince-bishops of Worms and was reconstructed in Baroque style between 1719 and 1744, featuring an impressive H-shaped structure designed by architect Balthasar Neumann. The palace played a significant role in the Protestant Reformation, as it was the site where Martin Luther defended his views before Emperor Charles V in 1521. Unfortunately, the palace was destroyed during the French Revolutionary Wars in 1794, and today, only remnants, including a vaulted cellar, remain within the Heyl Garden. The site is a poignant reminder of its historical significance and offers visitors a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
