Sherrill Mount House

The Sherrill Mount House, also known as the Fries Hotel and The Inn at Sherrill, is a historic pre-Civil War hotel located in Sherrill, Iowa. This impressive three-story structure, built from native limestone, is one of the largest early stone buildings in rural Dubuque County. Originally situated along a stagecoach route by the Mississippi River, it once featured a 40-acre agricultural operation with an orchard and vineyard. The house served multiple community functions, including a post office and meeting hall, and boasted a beer garden and tavern before prohibition. Now transformed into the Black Horse Inn bed and breakfast, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002, making it a noteworthy destination for tourists and researchers alike.
