New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum - preserved mine ruins

The New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum preserves structures and archaeological remains from the 19th-century mercury (quicksilver) mining district that operated in what is now south San Jose. The site includes the historic Casa Grande building, furnace ruins, and interpretive exhibits about mining technology and local history, and it sits inside Almaden Quicksilver County Park along trails that pass by visible remnants of the mining era. The museum and surrounding ruins are considered a tucked-away historical landscape compared with more prominent city attractions.
