Samuel Osgood House

The Samuel Osgood House, located in Manhattan, was the first official residence of the President of the United States, housing George Washington from 1789 to 1790 during New York City's brief term as the national capital. This historic site served not only as a home but also as the first seat of the executive branch, featuring both living quarters and offices. The house was managed by a diverse household staff, including enslaved individuals brought by Washington. Although demolished in 1856, its significance is commemorated by a plaque placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution, marking a pivotal location in American history.
