Old College (Northwestern University)

Old College, completed in 1855, was the first building at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Initially intended as a temporary structure, it served multiple roles including classrooms, a library, and offices, and was pivotal in the university's early development. The building housed the university's first library and various educational programs over the years. Despite being relocated several times, it was ultimately razed in 1973 after sustaining extensive damage from a lightning strike. Today, a sign from Old College can be found at University Hall, marking its historical significance.
