Ellenborough Market

Ellenborough Market, also known as Teochew Market, was a historic market located on Ellenborough Street along the Singapore River. Established in 1845, it was known for its seafood offerings and served the local Teochew community. Despite its popularity, the market faced construction issues and underwent several modifications over the years. Tragically, it was destroyed by a fire in 1968 and subsequently demolished. Today, the site is home to the Swissotel Merchant Court hotel and The Central mall, with a café named after the market, preserving its legacy.
