The Great Elm of Boston Common

Boston's Great Elm was a famous American elm that stood on the Boston Common for centuries and was a noted landmark by the 18th and 19th centuries. The tree began to decline in the 1860s and ultimately fell in 1876; the original living landmark no longer exists. Its location on the Common is commemorated in historical accounts and early photographs of the park.
