Hornsea RNLI Lifeboat Station

Hornsea RNLI Lifeboat Station, located in the charming seaside town of Hornsea in East Riding of Yorkshire, was established in 1852 and played a vital role in maritime rescue operations for over 70 years. Initially managed by The Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners' Royal Benevolent Society, it transitioned to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in 1854. The station witnessed numerous heroic rescues, including the dramatic saving of crew members from shipwrecks during severe storms. Despite its closure in 1924 due to declining local maritime activity, the boathouse remains a historical landmark, now serving as a private residence. Today, Hornsea continues to honor its maritime heritage with the independent Hornsea Inshore Rescue, established in 1994, ensuring the spirit of community rescue lives on.
