Scarbrough Building (early 20th-century commercial)

The Scarbrough Building was constructed in 1909 as a department store for Scarbrough & Hicks and became a downtown retail anchor on Congress Avenue. The multi-story masonry structure exemplifies early 20th-century commercial architecture in Austin and contributed to the corridor’s retail character through much of the 20th century. The building has since been adapted for modern office and retail use while retaining its historic façade and storefront rhythm.
