Convento de Santa Dorotea

The Convento de Santa Dorotea, located in Burgos, Castile and León, Spain, is a historic Augustinian nun's convent established in 1387. This Gothic structure began as a community formed by Dorotea Rodriguez Valderrama and other devout women at the old church of Santa Maria la Blanca. The convent adopted the rule of St. Augustine in 1429, supported by Bishop Pablo de Santamaría, and relocated several times before settling in its current location in 1470. Notable benefactors include King John II of Castile, and the convent houses significant tombs, including those of Alonso de Ortega and Bishop Juan de Ortega, crafted by Nicholas de Vergara in 1516.
